After the recent dismissal of Michael Roth as head coach of TV Großwallstadt, the club is now on the lookout for a new coach to lead the team. Stefan Wüst, the club’s managing director, highlighted the need for a change due to the unsatisfactory sporting prospects under Roth’s leadership. Despite Roth’s impressive background as a former national player and Olympic silver medalist, the club felt that a new direction was necessary.
Roth took over as head coach in July 2023 and initially saw some success with the team finishing in eighth place after the first half of the season. However, a hip operation forced him to take a break, and the team’s performance suffered, ultimately ending the season in 14th place. With Roth facing health issues and the team starting the current season with two losses in three games, the club felt it was time to make a change.
Assistant coach Povilas Babarskas will take over as the interim coach, with the possibility of a more permanent promotion depending on his ability to connect with the team. Wüst and his colleagues are now calmly assessing the coaching market, emphasizing the importance of finding a coach who fits their criteria. They are open to considering candidates from outside the usual pool to find the right fit for the team, including considering options for the U23 team and the junior academy.
In light of key players Finn Wullenweber and Mario Stark being sidelined due to injuries, the club may also look to make additional signings to strengthen the team. However, Wüst stressed that any new additions must align with the club’s overall strategy and not be a hasty decision.
The focus now is on finding the right coach to steer TV Großwallstadt in the right direction and work towards achieving their season goal of a top-ten finish. With a clear vision for the future, the club is determined to make a strategic decision that will benefit the team in the long run.
